Your child's learning journey

  NURSERY LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

Each week the rooms plan their activities and enhancement of areas around the children’s interests and their learning needs, focusing on the seven areas of learning, which are:-

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  2. Communication & Language
  3. Mathematics
  4. Understanding of the World
  5. Physical Development
  6. Expressive arts and design
  7. Literacy

We assess the children using detailed observations that have been carried out on your child throughout the nursery day.  This helps us to plan for your childs next stage in their individual learning journey.

We collate the information on your child which is then transferred to their individual portfolio.

 Children’s Development Records (Portfolio)

A collection of observations on each child will build up a record of progress in all areas of development.  These are printed and stored in your child's profile.

These observations are completed on an ipad using software called 2Simple. This process allows us to take a photo, write an observation, makes assessments and plan next steps around that photo.

Information about your child's development is displayed on the key person boards within your child's room – please take a little time to have a look. Or you could ask your keyperson if you can look at your child's portfolio.

Staff give each parent daily feedback on what their child has been experiencing and exploring during the day.  We encourage parents to give there input at this time on what their child is doing at home, favourite things and about their development. You can do this verbally, post it note, email, whichever works for you.  We also ask you to share information by completing our sharing forms.  All these help us get to know your child better, to be able to encourage and share their porgress and development

You will have an opportunity to discuss your child’s development with staff at our Annual Parents Evening and you will receive a Parents Progress Report each time your child moves room through the Nursery and when your child finally leaves.

Integrated 2 year check

At some point after your child turns two, the professionals working with your child (your key person) will give you a written summary of how your child is progressing against the three prime areas of learning-;

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social & emotional development

The check will highlight the areas where your child is progressing well and any areas where they may need extra support or help.  The progress check will also give ideas and ways of how parents and carers can help support their child’s development at home and in setting.

You may also find it useful to share this information with other professionals, such as your health visitor (who can use it as part of the health and development review).

We have a named Health Visitor, who meets with us every term, to discuss the check, to highlight any development concerns

Feel free to ask staff at any time about your child’s progress and development needs.
